GameFAQs is -right there- and yet
Oh wait they have full page pop-up ads now...
Still vastly preferable to joining a server for a tidbit of information
i mean where else are we supposed to put clairens best options out of each throw and pummel she has? the wiki??? smh my head we all know that's just for frame data and hitboxes!!
This problem was/is rampant with small businesses and designers in the keeb scene. None of them wanted to post updates out in the open, they want to obfuscate any customer relations behind a walled platform.
it actually infuriates me to no end when people do this
it's good for conversations and community but if you have drama in that server and some mod goes rogue, your documentation is gone forever. plus, discord's search is god awful
To real... Better than my project... It has to do list items in the code that are basically documentation if you figure it out... Or finish the to-do list item.. //_<
Discord should include a forums like server option so that way ppl can easily access info being documented on discord without having to log in and join a server
Discord is searchable as well, keywords, restricted to channels, restricted by users, by time frame, media or not, links or not, blablabla.
Yet... both feel inadequate and are way, way too common.
Then you go there and ask about it and they don't answer you and ban you because someone asked it 2 months ago in the wall of text that is every Discord channel.
Your fault for not finding it in the 50k previous posts.
The real reason this happens is because discord is free hosting and free server software. It costs a lot to host a website and/or a forum and moderate it and keep the bots and scrapers from eating all your bandwidth and keep all your user data safe, etc.
this a thousand fucking times whyyy are we replacing publicly available and easily accessible information on forums and dedicated sites with discord servers having to join the nth discord server just to check out whatever project SUCKS
It's seriously my favorite, second only to them locking up my data only to be future hidden or deleted whenever they want :3 makes me feel light and fluffy on the inside
That's happened on me THREE TIMES!! Three different projects just *poofed* out of existence cause some dickwad was being a fuckhead to some asshole. I don't understand the fascination with making these things discord servers instead of GitHub repos.. ESPECIALLY WHEN THE PROJECT IS HOSTED ON GITHUB!!
I can get that for more less-than-completely-legal joints, especially since I'm already in a few. But c'mon guys, your indie VR app or game data editor or modding tool or Windows Fixermadoo doesn't need to be the exclusive domain of a discord server
I think the main appeal of Discord for issues is that people just enjoy the informality and immediacy of it whereas everything in a more public space has the pressure of needing to look professional
An excellent point! Having a discord server or other informal social hub for something is very much what I'd call a good idea, but when the project's existence and availability revolves around a discord server, something extremely fallible, that's when it can get really messy.

"Yeah the docs are all auto generated from the code isn't it great?" NO THAT MEANS ITS JUST A LIST OF FUNCTIONS AND WHAT OUTPUTS AND INPUTS THEY HAVE
I WANT A PARAGRAPH EXPLAINING STUFF

Arguably Discord is not free due to servers essentially requiring boosts to scale up to larger audiences. GitHub pages just always work.
you have no idea how much that actually helped
