The thing that bothers me about David's argument here is that in 20 months there will have been a whole bunch of precedents set about how the political system processes a bid for autocratic takeover. Impoundment may become uncontested common sense by then; if so, Dems taking over Congress in 2027...

There will be elections, the technical administration of the election & counting of votes will be fair, but quashing those *aren't* how you'd expect the Trump regime to crush opposition. It'll be through criminal investigation & indictment. Unfairness of elections would be elsewhere, in other words

assuming they restrict themselves to mere intimidation of this sort, it is still a mistake to pin our hopes on public discontent expressed at the ballot box—or in the street—as a way out. we know how illiberal regimes deal with opposition in these forums. and we can't give them another year

What does that mean tactically (I get the point strategically)? Someone who replies to you says “guérilla warfare tactics and radical confrontation” -but what does that mean concretely (I’m assuming the warfare is a metaphor)?

And, can one keep “restoring pluralist politics” as a long-term goal?

I think I'm on team "get Dem *House* members arrested trying to get into illegally disrupted agencies to do direct oversight." Senators should refuse all unanimous consent on all Senate business until the crisis is addressed. Render Congress totally frozen.

Aim should be to force Trump to openly and officially declare himself and what he's doing, so that all political actors are likewise forced to take sides on the coup.
