Blue cities have an odd preference for a romanticized idea of “process” over tangible outcomes. Lengthy approval times for building permits are a glaring example. Communities receive no benefits, only harms, from this endless bureaucracy.

It took 1,000+ days to get this 200+ unit downtown apartment building’s land use permit approved. What is the point of the land use permit anyway? The construction permits are approved in 250 days and cover all the life safety, energy, and structural requirements. Why do we need land use permits?
