Football is basically the national religion. As far as dumb guys are concerned, having "college football coach" on your resume will automatically qualify you for any job including neurosurgeon, quantum physicist, nuclear weapons czar, astronaut, and Space Pope.

He was president of Youngstown State for close to a decade so he has public administrative experience. It's certainly a baffling move but I think this is DeWine's way of getting a popular figure in the 2026 race against the MAGA candidates like Vivek to replace him.
