One thing you might find interesting: I read William Goldman's book where he talks about writing the screenplay for this movie. The look of the Stepford Wives with the dresses and hats and everything happened this way: originally they were going to be, like, bikini models, that kind of thing.

But the director wanted to cast Nanette Newman in the movie. And Newman, while attractive, was not a bikini model type. She was a dresses and hats type. And nobody could tell the director this won't work, because Newman was his wife. So they changed the character designs. And now it's famous.
