My wife and I attended a gathering where gifts were not required and someone brought the host a tiny orange candle that the host clearly didn't want. It made us sad for all involved, now "Orange Candle Sad" is the highest level of sadness we can describe.

I was shocked when I learned that “pinsky”—which is what I could have sworn I heard out of my friend’s mouth—was actually always “Penske”. The moving company. Which is why it’s parked right out front in the sweet spot.

The disappointment! “Pinsky” was so senseless and nice. We have to keep it.

I picked it up years ago from someone who claims it is a phrase used in your Twin Cities part of the world, but I've never verified this. I have never heard it used outside of my own household since.

Another driving made up word - We are masters of “The Cheese.” - when people cue up to exit a mile before, but we never break speed and slip in line perfectly at the very end without interrupting the flow. There’s always a weak link who’s left a big gap in the line. “The cheese, ladies and gents.”
