For me, they tend to be useful for polishing. Maybe I need an engagement idea or I want to spruce something up. The plan still feels like it's mine because I thought through the basics, but I get to breathe it into life in a way that I wouldn't have done as quickly or easily otherwise. YMMV.

To be fair, I don’t use a lesson plan generator, just an all purpose like GPT. I can’t see the value in paying for something with bells and whistles.

Never use AI for lesson planning for the same reasons. It’d take lots of iterations to get something decent, I feel it actually wastes my time. Can be quite handy for materials though provided you’re very specific with your prompts and willing to iterate.

I legitimately don't get it. Besides, it often takes 3-5 minutes for me to generate a lesson plan. And it feels like it's mine.

I agree about the lesson planners. Wouldn't it be great to create interdisciplinary lessons with authentic tasks that address SEL, UDL, DEI, etc.? Sure, but who has time to plan something like that? AI can can at least get us started down this path. Naturally, it takes a more thoughtful prompt.

I guess for me, these generators are just so basic and I see those factors as mostly attached to the resources/specifics themselves, as opposed to being built into the plan.

But maybe I’m being narrow-minded there. I need to think about that more.

I agree that the drop-down menu lesson planners are too limiting, but I find the chatbots useful. I have created several custom GPTs to help plan lessons for particular audiences or with a particular emphasis.
