2024 version of this: "You are suppressing my views of racism, sexism, and hatred! You are not accepting me!". Being nice to the 'nice nazi' should not be allowed as 'acceptance of other opinions'. It's a losing game at the start.
The problem with this quote is who gets to define what ‘evil’ truly is? The definition of what is morally, ethically, etc right and wrong changes from person to person, geographical region to region, etc.
It's one of the reasons ethics is taught in college. It's one of the core concepts defining what is morally acceptable compared to what isn't based on some core principles that all societies tend to agree upon.
I would love to get into it more, but writing a wall of text is pretty difficult here.
One side wants to give us health care, the other side wants to put kids in cages and shoot liberals. How can I ever understand these nuanced thoughts and feelings? Am I fucking stupid?
I presume you don't believe ~50% of US voters intentionally chose putting kids in cages and shooting liberals. And if they didn't, I'd invite you is to investigate what they did think they were voting for.
In my experience, most people who consider themselves on the left don't know
Did you know that 13% of Trump voters in 2016 previously voted for Obama? They are an interesting group to explore because that'll give a good idea of what the average Trump voter wants - which is ironically the same thing they hoped to get from Obama
Tolerance is a social contract, not a moral necessity. It's socially useful; it can lead to good things; but you've always got to judge when to extend it. Putting up with loud music is one thing, and letting someone harm people out of racism is another.
Sure, but the problem has to do with justification because of the relativity of the word 'evil'.
"The line between good and evil is not a line, but a gradient,"
Context though;
Evil has been using puppets claiming to be "good" for quite some time now, because sheep never question labels. It's too hard.
So the good enslave docile sheep, and the Evil sit quietly and invisibly behind it all, controlling the world and you never knew.
You're welcome.
Tolerance is based on the tolerant assuming they are the top of the human heap, being beneficent to the rest of us. I reject your tolerance. Stand aside or get clubbed down, supremecists.
Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them.."

The ammo he & we all have is the TRUTH against the EVIL rulers of this world & THEIR WARS, LIES & GREED! Love, light, truth & word of God WILL SAVE US but NOT Trump & ALL who throw in with him INCLUDING his bottom feeders. Good men & women are destroyed everyday on earth just like Christ was!
Christ is everything that capitalism detests! Love, tolerance, equality. Capitalism was born from wars & greed! The world is full of right wing hatred & lies & the only thing we can save is our souls! Trump & musk condemn themselves & no amount of prays can save someone who refuses to repent!
Not is the Nazarene what you want him to be. Accept that he was born and raised in antiquity, under Roman imperial rule, and has seen the nigh-on 2000 years of history since. Do you suppose that he is without sympathy for the Middle East, or those subject to the whims of the powerful?
It’s difficult because my observation is skewed by life as it is in today’s world
But I guess, to me, Jesus, through His love, offers hope. I believe Jesus was a lens that let people see and understand the hardship of life was temporary, and God’s love is eternal
So true. People have such vastly different perspectives of what is "evil". You only have your own experiences after all so it's understandable. Perhaps it's time we try to be more nuanced ✨ and listen to those who don't agree with us
Good to see many people on this thread calling out this out for the problem of what actually is ‘evil’ and who gets to define it. We can all agree some things are indisputably evil- but there’s plenty of room for disagreement down the ticket. This is the sort of nuance I hope Bluesky can hold on to
Agreed, there is a grey zone that has certain inclusions and exclusions. That's where ethics comes into play to help filter through the grey area and define what should and shouldn't be tolerated.
The good/evil spectrum is a gradient scale. It's where we draw the line that matters.
The problem is that it's exactly the same thing being said by the nazis about the non nazis.
IDK what to suggest as a solution, I'm just naming a problem
THAT BEAUTIFUL APPLIES PERFECTLY TO SLOWPOKE DOJ A.G. GARLAND. HIS TOLERANCE FOR TRUMP'S COUNTLESS CRIMES HAS GIVEN US PRESIDENT TRUMP II, THE DEMOCRACY DESTROYER !!!
Hello dear👋🏻♥️, I know we have not met before, but I am Diva. It is a problem. People can be swayed into believing groups are evil or not evil. The only hope is that people do research to discover the real evil and if they’re too dumb to do research they should just stay out of it but relying on idiots isn’t very effective.
Tolerance is simply inaction when action should be taken due to situational exceptions to normality.
"We tolerate him because he is family."
"We tolerate evil."
"We tolerate everthing."
"We tolerate nothing."
Are the third and fourth not good examples of Anarchy/nazi. Tolerance is never the problem.
Most people don't have the means to fight back against tyranny. If the government lets you do it, it's probably not effective. So that rules out protest.

If I see one thing between the left and right currently, it's how little they understand the other's perspective.
If you don't do that, then it may be you doing the evil acts.

The paradox of intolerance states that we must not tolerate the intolerant. That makes more sense to me.
The gist is that a tolerant society is impossible. If you are intolerant of anything, this makes you intolerant.
If you tolerate everything, then you also tolerate evil ideologies which inherently makes you intolerant as well.
There...
For a society to work well, it needs to strike this balance.
In human form he was not a superlative man, he is NOT what you want him to be
Jesus is a member of what we call the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus is infinite and eternal
Hope this clarifies

It seems a word for disgruntled or able to handle.
It is just a medium word only when other ways it can become hateful.
I tolerate Mexicans because I live near El Paso.
