with that being said, i don't necessarily think reading and listening to audiobooks are cognitively on the same level, but can understand where you're coming from. Like i said in my other reply, as long as the desired content is being consumed happily, there really is no point to argue. debate? sure

i seem to compare it to reading/speaking multiple languages. some can read and speak in another language interchangeably without struggle. although reading/speaking takes very different skill levels, both are incredibly important and go hand in hand. One CAN survive w/o the other tho

being able to comprehend how the written language is used is a powerful thing, but it in no way does it take away from the beauty that audiobooks bring to people. if we can embrace written world around us to bring all our senses to their full potential, we might as well try.

I am guilty of being pedantic.

I love audiobooks. I enjoy having them read to me. I'm using a different cognitive process to arrive at meaning, rather than decoding symbols on a page.

I'm still absorbed by the story and keeping the information in my head.

Isn't that the end result of reading?

I’m so sorry. It’s so disappointing that it’s coming from our side too. There’s a real irony there. Audiobooks are literally DEI for reading. Ooh that’s a good one, I think I’ll make a post about that.

It happens. 99% of the time, my interactions on Bluesky are great. But that 1% is a real batch of hateful assed people.
