Haha ok I have strong feelings about this. Do they know they are about to radicalize the most dangerous bureaucrats on earth? People whose well of suppressed frustration is already a supersaturated critical mass kept in stasis only by the thin shreds of fairness under the law left in the U.S. code?
Where this is really going to show how bad they screwed up is when we are in hurry to upgrade the military and acquire material quickly due to war time.
But DOGE isn't doing this because it works. They want to centralize procurement under GSA because DOGE control at GSA is tighter than at any other agency.
They are putting procurement under their own control. Musk's control.
Elon already has millions in government contracts. His boys have free rein to read/ write the code in too many of our vital systems, hurting us for decades to come.
Totally, it’s 100% removing any friction/barriers or transparency into the procurement process to ensure Musk and SV cronies can get their hands on these contracts
Transparently obvious. Incredibly terrifying and infuriating. But it seems that people are willing to buy into whatever bs they spout because it's easier to believe than reality
It could actually be good to re-write the FAR. If knowledgeable people did it.
DOGE has already fired many of the knowledgeable people at GSA. Some good ones remain, but I doubt they will be listened to. Or even feel safe to speak out.
I think instead Musk's brogrammers and an LLM will do it.
Yes. The FAR already provides so much flexibility for those that understand it. Groups like 18F were doing great work taking advantage of the authority the FAR provides to be creative (“do what works best as long as you follow these few rules”).
But if you *did* want to create an infinite government contract machine for yourself, this is what you would do: you would capture the institution that writes the rules for contracting, and re-write them.

Seriously, we need to deport him back to Africa. He should be their problem.
Straight fact.
