After Green interrupted last night, another Democrat should have done the same thing. And then another, until all of them had to be removed. Delay the speech by a few hours. Or walk out en masse. Anything.

Calling Trump an existential threat means nothing if you can’t meet the fucking moment.

While I would’ve supported the messaging behind it, I’m struggling to understand what a Dem walkout would have actually accomplished. I suspect it would have just been spun successfully by the GOP as “yet another display of liberal cowardice and incompetence.”

I think a part of our problem as liberals is that the New Right has successfully convinced a significant portion of voters that liberals are weak and cowardly. They would’ve spun a walkout as something like “the Democrats just couldn’t handle Trump totally OWNING the libtard deep state.”

there is no response the GOP won’t put a negative spin on, so that just can’t be the goal. But if you’re mulling shutting down the entire federal government, you need to seize every opportunity to convey the extremity of the crisis.
