kathy hochul doing the most democratic party thing possible: not actually solving the problem but making noises that sound like she's addressing the problem. meanwhile the problem gets worse.

Especially if Williams never takes office, right? Dems, as always, protecting their right flank from their own 'allies.' I've watched the party do this since they ratfucked Jackson in '88. The Democratic party's sole job is to protect Big Business from the left. Noting else.
Also what all politicians have been doing for the last decade: expecting someone else (another branch or level of gov, voters, etc) to do their job for them
Can anyone explain why everyone on Bluesky is so hot to make Andrew Cuomo Mayor of New York?
Why are we always so quick to forgive White sex abusers? I thought we'd learned something over the years.
Let Hochul fight off Cuomo for God's sake.
How we had decades of presidents kicking the can of how to deal with slavery down the road that led to the Civil War. And then decades of appeasement & trying to figure out civil or even basic human rights during bloody Jim Crow.
But at least those elected leaders then preserved sacred norms. 😒
Just stop this. It is not a simply-pull-the-trigger-and-shoot scenario to get Adams out of office. It's a far more legally complex matter. There's no legit reason to attack Hochul for following the law and being careful and methodical.
You're not an elected democrat, you don't need to make excuses to get out of doing the obviously good and politically smart thing to do. You're allowed to demand Democrats do the thing. In fact, that's actually a voter's job
She's just scared to be the first one to do it. Let's face reality. It's an untested process, but state law and the charter give her this ability. She just doesn't want the blowback from doing it.
No. State law & charter don't "give her this ability" to summarily fire a Mayor like he's an at-will employee subject to whims of the Governor. It's a complicated, involved, & likely lengthy process to do so.
You clearly read somewhere that she could do this, and you believe it but it's not true.
You say that but as this TIME article covers, there were in fact many avenues she could have taken to remove him, but instead of doing *any* of them she decided the best course of action was to be a lazy piece of shit.
There's no identified process for this section. They would have to create it. It would be messy. It would take courage because there would be blowback. That's no reason not to do it. If Adams doesn't merit it then the section effectively doesn't exist.
This is “complex.” So is our involvement in funding war crimes in Gaza. Or why we can’t have Medicare for All. Or a livable minimum wage.
It’s always “complex” or “complicated” when actual political will and a moral compass are required. Even if results would go over well with the general public.
Taking an APA action requires you have to submit a complete, fulsome record at the start. At minimum the state needs to wait for the fed judge's decision to be able to include that info & material.
So there’s action people who don’t want to see a pro-ICE, pro-cop, pro-Trump, Dem turncoat mayor *could* take. After how many years of watching MAGA destroy legal abortion & do everything they can to allow me to buy a machine gun with a silencer: yeah, I want actual effort on our side. Not excuses.
There is careful and methodical because it's a tricky procedure, like heart surgery, and then there's testing the political winds, which is what Hochul does. If she were sure it would win her votes she would oust Adams today.
This is insane. There's nothing stopping her from removing the comically corrupt puppet of our fascist president right now. You don't need to make excuses for why she's not doing the obvious thing, that's the job of elected Democrats
Gotcha. While we all *know* what's occurred (and I too want that sleazeball out of office ASAP), there may well be far more to this story. Holding off for a time until a fulsome record is developed via the court proceedings is wisest course.
The court has limited options in terms of getting information, and of preventing this case from being dismissed. There is not going to be a lot more info coming out, and none more is needed. Adams is clearly corrupt, he clearly cut a deal with Trump, and Hochul has the legal right to remove him.
She’s doing worse than not addressing the problem. Her proposal is actively worse than doing nothing. I don’t want state bureaucrats to have more oversight over NYC. There’s too much of that already
I’m sure she’s busy getting ready to defend Congestion Pricing against the administration that, you know, implemented her preferred policy of killing it.
Kathy Hochul is doing this. Your cheap shots at the Democratic Party are tired and lame. Unless you mean to discount the achievements of the Biden administration.
Of course- entirely predictable. Rather then actually leading we tack to the safer ground and bide our time. As though the crimes, coverups and other malfeasance isn’t enough to take action. They will always take the additional smashed norms, time, process. While we wait for them to find themselves.
The GOP stunned everybody with how passive they were while trump nazied his way back the White House, and then the Democrats were like, 'Hold my spirit-forward Negroni.'

Republicans for 44 years have been playing offense while we've been jacking off to legalism.
Stop this shit.
