I'm not sure I'd care about current events if it wasn't for my first English professor in college. I'm grateful. I also learned through him to cite and verify all sources. That's what scares the regimes. They don't want us paying attention or learning how to call them out on their BS.
Um, well we were taught details but on myriad subjects without skewing the facts including social studies and civics. Now it's hard to tell what states are limiting and skewing in classrooms. And with the DOE being gutted, we'll see public schools across the country closing for lack of funds.
And because we question our own beliefs when we see data to the contrary. And we can hold two opposing ideas in our minds at one time without losing it. And we are curious and look for evidence of our ideas. And…
That’s exactly right. My psych 101 professor Tony Grasha, said if the only thing you learned in college was to think critically, you were ahead of the game!
Years ago, my late
uncle, a tradesman and ardent Labour supporter and socialist, asked me why so many teachers were left wing. I replied possibly education?
I was also told Republicans prefer to keep the population uneducated in USA. Knowledge is power (or rather should be 😓)
Therein lies the threat. Lies, conspiracies, rabbit holes don't work well on you. It's necessary to have an easily manipulated population for a total dictatorship to succeed.
A HUGE fact the vast majority of americans STILL dont get : theres NO real ``LEFT`` in America. Its all right wingers. Yes, even democrats are right wingers. Theres only right wing and extreme nazi right wing aka republicans.
The only leftist in the whole US government is basically Bernie Sanders.
Education is so important and that’s why Republicans want to close the Department of Education and limit access to or exert greater control over colleges and universities!
It’s control over our freedoms! When will this end??
only a person who never went to college, or majored in crap like business administration would sincerely believe this. I don't think a single iota of woke ideology crept its way into my philosophy, literature and Russian classes.
In that same vein, when you live in a large city and are exposed to different people and customs and lifestyles, you can't help but learn tolerance and empathy. This exposure proves that we're all people that want the same things from life.
It’s considered liberal because we were taught to QUESTION, RESEARCH and REASON… not to just blindly follow without thinking for yourself (which has lead some to believe that a draft dodging, habitual liar, 34 time convicted felon, cheating businessman really cares about you and not money & power)
We are here now because in the late 70s people were convinced that a liberal arts education was nothing but basket weaving and useless. Critical thinking is not needed to make you a cog in the wheel of industry. And it’s why so many people today have no capacity to evaluate Trump’s lies.
They think facts are liberal indoctrination, and want would prefer us to learn earth flat theory taught by monks.
The willfully ignorant will never see use for something they cannot understand. What I cannot understand is how a liberal society would allow these charlatans to set the narrative.
Many people, when they go off to college, also leave their rural towns and their parents' and community's closed, bigoted mindset. Once they finally meet the people they've been told to hate their whole lives, they find out they're actually humans too. Which I guess means "woke".
I think it is fundamentally simpler, though yes, with those tools. We learn, through proper research and critical thinking, that cruelty is a choice, violence and dehumanization, choices. And yes, natural corollary is true as well. These people chose this, and bear the responsibility for the same.
You have to be a moron to believe in white supremacy and totally ignorant of history. White people were climbing trees when Indians and Egyptians and Mayans were at the peak of 12 thousand year civilization. Even bloody Hitler thought that Tibetan monks were far superior and went to study with them.
At the same time, the university is almost pathologically un-ideological. A lot of major universities are glorified businesses, viz., large endowments, private equity, stock investments. It's in their interests *not* to criticize the ruling class and subtly encourage their students to do the same.
It's interesting you think liberals aren't indoctrinated, as you believe the party should oppose Trump and the party as a whole is laying down and allowing him.....
Didn't challenge election results, didn't really try in the election because "Biden didn't drop out soon enough", rolled over on CR.

“We lean left because we tend to be better informed… and are able to think critically!”
I mean how can we as a Country possibly cheer for closing the “Department of Education!”
That would seem to be… DUMB and DUMBER! Is this the GOAL to make Americans easy to manipulate?

(and maybe someday Bsky will let me do that)

But next time the 10 or 15 or 20 or whatever number they need to pass something, will for sure try to be "bipartisan" and pass it for them.
