hard for a color theory noob to understand what the influences are, or even if they are. Can you describe what the painting might look like if you didn't lay down orange?
Maybe I'm imagining it, but for the clouds in particular, the orange kind of gives them a sort of glow as if there is an evening sun behind the viewer. Like it's going to be sunset in an hour or two
I never thought I'd love a picture of a cloud...but here we are. And the plane, a brilliant touch. Although it breaks my heart when they spray chemicals in the sky.

I don’t understand painting technique, clearly. (I’m a photographer) Why did you paint orange background, only to paint blue over it? My eye doesn’t see what that portrays.
This layer helps brighten and warm my paintings and provides continuity between all the other colors. Even though I cover most of it up, subtle tones and flecks show through the subsequent layers. I prefer this red/orange mix because it compliments my earth and sky palette so nicely.
Chemtrails!!!😂🤣 Call space farce, they're spraying chemtrails. Where's Major Tyler Green? I'll bet the Jewish Space Lasers are next. Or else they'll turn their weather machine on.

I find it easier and more fun to paint from a warm middle ground. I also like how this layer ties all the other colors together. Little bits and tones show through everywhere giving my paintings a more cohesive and lively look.
Care for a story ? Good! My Wife painted scenery from blocks.. She broke it into blocks and made it evocative.... With a CAT in the frame.. SHE WAS GOOD! I have a photo.... Tiny thing of her best Art... I miss Her..x
I am quite jealous... My best was " Skinny art! " I drew Friends on keyboards... Very '80's.. Monochrome... No! Nothing left.. my art teacher took them... I was 15... 😎

Color on electronic devices is usually not very well reproduced. And even if you saw it in person you'd be completely baffled if someone told you it was orange underneath. But if a duplicate was painted without that, you'd see it pretty easily side by side.
At court, Hokusai he painted a long blue mark on a sheet of paper—then dipped a chicken’s feet in red paint and chased it across the image, creating a riff on maple leaves floating on Japan’s Tatsuta River.

I wouldn't have guessed that, with acrylic, it influences the colors you add on top at all.

Amazing art! You really know how to make clouds.
i also use a 5-2-1 mix of turpentine, linseed oil and picture varnish for use with the oil paints.
