One of the things you get from Jen Pahlka's Recoding America, or talking to other smart civic technologists, is that when tech folks come into govt to tell people who know their complex programs incredibly well about how to fix them, it just doesn't go well.

Just a really, really reliable rule of thumb.
Me, a wise civic technologist: I’ve been lucky if I’ve had code that has run for 9 years before being replaced. This is the deep magic.
Not ranting at you. I’m ranting at the fool who said it, and all of the credulous people who think that it is deep wisdom.
That’s putting it well.
There’s nothing more maddening than tech bros with a lot of money who think that the VC world of hype, pitches, and fanciful balance sheets tells you anything about how to prioritize requirements for a democratic society that includes diverse people and needs.
Pretty sure Musk fails at that.
