As Moulton knows, Dems went along with most of Trump's wishlist on immigration last year, and were ready to pass a bill. They rejected the seemingly overwhelming orthodoxy of their own party! But then Trump effectively vetoed the bill.

But that was all too little too late for voters who care about that issue. You don't get to pretend the first 3 years didn't happen and folks fear it will recur.
Immigration.
A d he correctly cited the poll. You quote top line, he focuses on swings, and it found: "For swing voters who eventually chose Trump, cultural issues ranked slightly higher than inflation (+28 and +23, respectively)."
My bad, deleting that post. Re immigration, my view is he is giving too much credit to Trump for fearmongering on a topic with no willingness to actually fix it.
Most people aren't wonks. Those who care about that issue think he cares about it and Biden-Harris don't (and with reason). Whether his policy ideas are good (and they mostly arent) is secondary, no?
They shouldn’t care about it is the problem - it’s a non issue. You’re not going to win over people divorced from reality by leaning into the hysterical fantasy.
The implication of a rhetorical stance where you spend several years bashing a group in order to motivate your party base seem troubling, and not one I would want to identify as a favorable model to emulate.
"We need to widen our tent" by doing what exactly? Harris did not run on culture issues, but she should have responded to anti-trans ads how?
Moulton was not cancelled. His seat is not in danger. He is just angry at harsh criticism and turning it into a diagnosis of Whats Wrong With Dems. Bad take.
I am unwilling to engage with you on this subject because I am concerned that my dissent from orthodoxy will result in vitriolic attacks that are not in proportion to my attempt at thoughtful, constructive pushback
There’s also the fact that some of remember the PC wars of the 1990s—it was the same rhetoric then of Dems being against free speech, etc. Plus to claim free speech gave us those things—it took criticizing those against it, who could then say, where is your big tend? Jeez what a dolt.
Are you being purposely obtuse?
Trying to deny one of the obvious reasons we lost: “well it was only the THIRD reason, not first” & “duhh, we should have responded to the most effective attack from them? Uhhhh HOW?”
Why should we listen to you if you can’t answer these easy questions?
He was also one of the first very public knives out for Biden. He’s a climber and I disagree that his seat’s not in danger-don’t be surprised to see a primary in his district.
I am absolutely sick to death of the whole “what’s wrong with Dems” thing. This is why I have not been on social media much in the past week. I just can’t keep reading all the garbage takes
Presenting Trump as a rhetorical model to follow seems troubling. If we were to take it seriously, who are the populist targets of Democratic rage? Yesterday's Bluesky dialogue was whether the Dems had screwed up by being too critical of Silicon Valley.
Established racial animus is a powerful motivator that also forecloses any negotiation; Dems’ emphasis on toleration & negotiating (good values!) makes them lose the prisoner’s dilemma game every time
Being criticized is not a free speech issue. It cheapens the idea of free speech to treat it as such. It is also galling when there are real examples of violations of free speech that are not deemed important enough to make the op-ed page. https://bsky.app/profile/donmoyn.bsky.social/post/3lbwvw42ios2p
