I write code and there is zero chance that someone could go in cold and know where to find the code to change - in even a complicated website let alone something this huge. This means they had the code to study. The system was prob compromised under 1st Trump admin

As a software guy, I can't help but feel that the gov't employees should just not comply, and let the system burn. They should have version control, they can revert the offending changes once everything is on fire and the kids start having panic attacks.

My husband used to work at a company with a legacy COBOL system, and he talked about the programmer for it in terms that practically made her sound like a wizard who spoke to the land of shadows on the company's behalf. The overconfidence here is so terrifying.

I managed COBOL programmers. It's a dinosaur of a language, and no longer taught widely. They will have no clue what to do with it.

This is not good! It takes months to test code that does not have the reach that these systems do. They are going to shut it down either accidently or permanently. Every American needs to print out their wage information from https://SSA.gov.
