Today is George Washington’s 293rd birthday. It’s a good day to heed the warning from his farewell address that love of power could result in despotism, authoritarianism, and tyranny. To prevent this, we must uphold proper checks and balances to limit this power.

Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

Hello friends. I know times are dark but it is incredibly important not to lose hope. And, this week there are signs of hope and it paramount we recognize that hope, not let up and build. A thread on this if I may. You may appreciate this on a Friday. Come along with me. 🧵 (1/10)

‘Secretary’ used to mean “one entrusted with the secrets or confidences of a superior.” We are now just realizing that this should be obvious because the word ‘secret’ is right there…

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

New day. Those of us who remain (for now) are getting up and carrying out the mission of the IRS. We will go in and to the best of our abilities, process returns, and issue refunds. But I am not going to lie. It was hard to get up and go this morning.

#BlackHistoryMonth: The Father of Environmental Justice Exposes the Geography of Inequity. America is segregated and so is pollution. We have the science, research, data and facts. But that's not enough. We must marry them to action. Scientific American www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-...

Voting matters!!! People in the House and the Senate care more about their constituents than Trump does. Members of Congress vote the way their district ALLOWS them to. "Purple" district republicans should be the biggest goal to flip for dems on 2026. Don't wait until 2026. START NOW!!!

Yeah definitely need an extra special Skyler Timeline Cleanse. Skyler is a very chatty cat and we often do this call and response thing. I mimic her and she mimics me. This is one of my favorite things that she does

This seems like it was a wise policy. Too bad.

Any Republicans want to grow a spine and stand up to this with us? Many of you represent rural areas who will suffer the most from this!

I hope it gets easier for you to live in the now. To remember that you're here, in the present moment, that you're safe, even if your mind is thinking of the worst case scenario. You will overcome every obstacle when they arrive, but right now, you can rest.

The main reason to remember that the fascist is UNPOPULAR is to shift how you think about antifascism. Get off your back foot. Lean forward. Other people are seeing what you are too.

I would like to announce that due to the state of the world, stew/soup season has been extended indefinitely

They didn't "save money." They starved kids and fired watchdogs. That all costs us more in the long run.

For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 1%, it can collect $13. For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 0.1%, it can collect $26. Laying off 7,000 IRS employees (during tax season) isn't about efficiency. It's about making it easier for the rich to evade taxes.

1. Despite Republican attacks in recent years, America is queerer than ever before. LGBTQ+ identification has risen to 9.3% in the last Gallup Poll, a huge jump from 7.6% last year. I cover the latest numbers in my story. Subscribe to support my journalism.

NEW UPDATE to Some Actions That Are Not Protesting or Voting. - a few people have written to me to ask if I could include HEADINGS and I have done so. Also added a few more ideas. docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Feds, we chose this path to serve a greater purpose. In these times of cruelty and fear, remember: our work still matters, even when the public forgets. Every life we impact is a strike back against false kings. Stand tall, stay strong, and hold the line. We are needed, now, more than ever.

Born to be the laziest little hobbit and eat potatoes all day, forced to get up early and help save the realm by my overly dramatic wizard friend

If I had a band or a label, I would do a punk cover of "No More Kings" from Schoolhouse Rock. And then I would gather a bunch of people to write a whole album of next-generation Schoolhouse Rock songs, with songs about Social Security and Medicaid and NOAA. I am not kidding in the least.

Timeline rest period with the garage sale space heater & two very spoiled fuzzboys.

24 Black men were delegates to the convention that passed the Virginia Constitution of 1868, which allowed Virginia to be readmitted into the Union.  During Reconstruction, over 120 Black men served in the Virginia General Assembly. #BHM2025

In the midst of these Horrors, both public and personal, and the dialogue about Good in narratives I think about this stack of manuscripts on the shelf beside my desk. How intrinsic is the longing for justice in the stories and worlds I’ve built, how resistance is at the root of everything.

I'd point to something deeper I think this thread is touching on: the (US) popular imagination has lost the concept that a system or society can be good, worth representing or defending, the underdog narrative that individuals are good and systems are bad or corrupt runs very deep in US storytelling

PUT AWAY YOUR FLAIL, TODAY YOU WILL BATTLE ENNUI. AND YOU WILL WIN.

We're in a coup, which means we're in a nightmare, which means we're all ramped up, so let me offer you some deep time, perseverance, and beauty, before you and I go back to the work.

83 years ago, Executive Order 9066 forcibly relocated and incarcerated over 120,000 Japanese Americans. This will forever be one of the most shameful chapters of US history. Today, as we remember this dark time, we must recommit to rooting out all forms of hate in this country.

The resistance will bring down Musk and Trump. Congress, wake up before your power is gone. The GOP begging Trump to release money to their states is pathetic—stand up to this tyranny. Congress controls the purse strings.

Today is EO9066 Day of Remembrance. 🇺🇸 This EO ordered the incarceration of Japanese residents. They were citizens and immigrants denied citizenship due to racist laws. Their stories are more important than ever. Take some time to listen to their stories.

Sad day here at the IRS. Keep all the terminated folks in your prayers. #FedStrong

I hope America is as lucky as the delta jet - everyone survives but the right wing explodes

There is always something you can do to gum up the works of fascism. A story. Claude Cahun. The queer nonbinary French-Jewish photographer. Nazis conquered France, were training soldiers on Jersey, where Cahun lived w/their partner, Marcel Moore. They did disinfo & morale smashing via Surrealism.

There's bedfellows in normal times, and there's a bucket brigade as it's burning down around us. I'll work on a line with anyone willing to pass buckets, fetch water, or throw water on the fire. Then we can get back vehement opposition to each other in a democratic political system. No arsonists.

I just added more things to this list today: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

man please just read the declaration of independence right now and realize that this mfkr is violating nearly ALL the "facts" listed under what constitutes an absolute Tyranny

I've shared this short piece about dialectics with a few younger organizers over the past couple of years: polied.com/articles/dia...

Again and again, these GOP senators are choosing to remain silent or outright enable the shredding of our Constitution and dismantling of our government because they care more about the billionaires who will benefit than they do about us. And all of these senators are facing re-election next year.

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.
