thinking about bicycle wheels as i ride out to work. they seem like straight up witchcraft. how can a few bits of wire create such a forcefield?

The spokes at the top are in tension, taking the weight of the bicycle. Same with the tyres, btw.

It’s fascinating to realize we ride bikes by the force hanging the top of the wheel to the hub. Smooths out the ride, too.
