When I went into cardiac arrest in DC, after I was revived the ambulance ride to the ER was $600, but when they needed to move me to a different hospital for a cath lab that was $2K! Insane.

My insurance was billed $800 for a .2 mile ambo ride. If I knew it was going to cost me $200 I would have walked and gotten there quicker!

When I first moved here, I found a guy in pretty bad shape and I offered to call an ambulance for him and he freaked the fuck out. He told me (while bleeding heavily) that he was thinking of calling an Uber but didn't want to fuck up his rating. Weird country.

Read any news story ft. physical harm and there will always be people who "declined treatment at the scene". That is they refused the ambulance because they didn't want to or couldn't pay for it. 2yrs ago there was a story about a Chicago guy who drove across town to a hospital with a chest wound!

When my kidney stone dropped last year I walked to the ER because I didn't want to pay for an ambulance and I was vomiting so much I didn't want to do that to an ride share worker. I did make a point of puking on the wrought iron fences of the mansions on my street that don't shovel their sidewalks.

If you have a medical condition, you will never be able to afford to treat it. And the “insurance company” that you pay every month to help you will simply say “not our problem, bye”
