It’s likely because (technically) there are three agencies reviewing the output of this, and the software probably never had support for that, even though you’d think it’d fall back on the primary agency (NSF)

Devil's advocate here (I despise AI "artistry" and definitely think artists should maintain full copyright to all of their OWN works), but.... OpenAI does make a good point. Unless we can somehow limit ALL AI, even AI not under USA jurisdiction, from using copyright materials, the Chinese AI wins.

Like, I'm not trying to say we SHOULD make AI companies immune from copyright claims, but there just, isn't anywhere near enough material in the public domain for AI to train on, even if you're only counting textual.

It sucks, so bad. It really does. I honestly wish AI had never been invented, and I really hope for a day when it fades mostly into obscurity outside of the few fields it's actually genuinely helpful in (EG., that image recognition AI that was designed for a bread shop)

I also realize that change has to start somewhere. I know the kneejerk reaction is "AI BAD, PUNISH AI COMPANIES" but I think we all need to take a step back and re-evaluate this. If we stop this, OpenAI might collapse, sure, but then that leaves just the foreign AI companies that we can't control
