As a UK expat in NZ, I'd love to see the UK move o a more proportional electoral system. The NZ Green Party got 12% of the vote, 15 out of 123 MPs. The UK Green Party got 7%, which translated into 4 out of 650 MPs. If the UK used a proportional system like MMP, that would be 46 MPs.

Of course, I've just done the math, and Reform UK would have got 91 MPs. But hey, no worries; a Labour, LibDem, Green coalition government ought to hang well together, and would just about represent the will of the majority with 337/650 MPs.

Wouldn't recommend - bear in mind that Farage got elected, that means by definition there's a large chunk of the population who lack any form of basic intelligence.

As such, they'd be unable to operate a PR system, which is probably why they rejected it in a referendum in recent times.

Just to note, MMP(NZ) is a mx of FPTP constituencies plus closed party lists. For the voter, the decisions are 1) who should represent my local interests? 2) which party represents my opinions best?

The system proposed in the referendum was just one type. The system used in Scotland and Wales is yet another. There are PR systems that are just as straightforward as FPTP.

All those people who say they've never heard of them - Carla has been on Question Time and appeared in a number of the pre-election Leaders debates. You don't hear as much from Adrian but Carla is quite visible if you're interested in political programmes.

It was her frankness, breadth of knowledge, realistic goals (in terms of election success) & eloquence that swung me to voting Green last election

I live in a safe Labour constituency so it was always going to be a protest vote, but felt support for her messaging spoke louder than ruining ballot.

Same here. I've never voted for them before. But I live in Wales and the candidates for the three main parties in my constituency (not that I'd ever vote Tory) all lived in England and I couldn't vote for a candidate who didn't even live this side of the border. I may well vote Green again.

As much as I agree 100% with you that they are ignored, I've found the silence from the Greens on the attacks from the international far right on Jess Philips as an MP and UK democracy as a whole hugely disappointing. Neither Carla or Adrian have said anything and I think it reflects poorly on them.

I think Carla Denyer should say that in 2025 she will put a custard pie into a 'random' politician's face every time she appears on TV (to draw attention to climate change). I am sure her bookings onto Question Time would increase dramatically.

I admire Green Party motivations. I hope they can influence public opinions & government policies to help the UK (& the world) deal with the devastating effects of climate change. But their economics never seem to work out & they're just not tough enough in today's political arena. Need more steel.
