2. How despised socialism is. People seem to hate the idea of ordinary people actually taking control of the world and running it in a fair way for some reason.

And it's not just hate, they think it is fundamentally impossible for them to handle.

They can understand that workers create all the possibilities for life, but believe it will all crumble in an instant without somebody stealing from their pockets and exploiting them, no matter how illogical the ruling class is.

3. The "sports team" approach to politics that Americans have. It's so weird to me, how supporters and voters of both parties question nothing. Both are fanatical about their support for their parties, and it's even weirder to me how democrats seem to believe themselves to be "good" people.

the success of authoritarianism coming to power requires an us vs them othering mentality to instill fear and disdain. i recently learned the word tribalism to desribe this phenomena, present in sports, politics, you name it.

But it's so crazy to me, how they've succeeded in convincing people, especially BIPOC, that they're the "good" guys. It's actually wild to me.
