In my entire undergraduate college career, spanning decades, I had *one* Black professor. In four colleges. Private and public. In New York City! Got B.A. in 2015.
(I didn't finish the first time and went back as an old.)

I had two students come up to me after the first class this semester to tell me how excited they were to "finally have a Black professor!"
In the past, I have had seniors say they took my class to ensure they would have a Black professor before they graduated.

Now we see what happens when white people aren't comfortable with Black people in positions of authority!
There is frenetic activity to practically catapult from workplaces any Black people in white collar roles. If you had Black fave teachers as a kid, maybe it could be different?
Me: "Why is this place so white?" I figured there would've been progress. Since the 1980s!
White lefty profs talked about raceβto mostly white, Asian, and Latinx students. Very few Black students.
