not to say its 100% irredeemable, coates used to have a column in it and they had a decent article against the us' continued support of israel last year, but in between the vapid slop (minecraft movie), its overwhelmingly anti-protest, anti-trans, anti-healthcare, pro-zionism, pro-police state etc

I’ve been keeping up with The Atlantic’s general line and reading many of their articles for decades now, and I guess my biggest complaint is that they present a superficially convincing facade of serious news and analysis, it’s all styrofoam packing peanuts once you get past the surface

I keep saying the analog for today is Reconstruction. The Atlantic crowd are the Liberal Republicans of 1872. Thinking they were far more influential (and popular) that they actually were, they ran against fellow Republican U.S. Grant and were crushed.
