☝️🤓 I know I'm going to be "third panel guy" here a little bit, but as I understood it Kaiju does in fact refer to the mid sized city destroyer. IIRC it's based on when it was introduced to Japanese society.
The other "size ratings" thus use city breaker Kaiju as the baseline.

Daikaiju refers more to cosmic scale horrors and monsters. Stuff like Hellstar Remina might be a Daikaiju.
