what's hilarious about this anti-cycle lane bullshit from councillor calvert is that her "look! no bikes in the cycle lane" photo is also a "look! no cars on the road" photo

I trust, given her comment on accessibility parking, that she will be addressing this clear need immediately and that she isn’t just using disabled people’s needs in a completely cynical way.
She’s definitely not the type to take a photo of a supermarket or hospital carpark and exclaim that the reason for a shortage in parking is too many accessible parking spaces… for example. That wouldn’t happen.
there's the same number of disabled parks, which was a bad move. Put disabled parks on the other side of the road with a pedestrian crossing and it would not be an issue. Cycle lanes are important , disabled parks are equally important
Turn a bit further right and there's a pedestrian crossing - now raised for easier access - and yeah, a couple more accessible parks could be added, it's just paint and a sign (and a resolution in council).
Same deal with the Murphy & Molesworth St cycleways. Probably a solid 2-3 min faster by bike at rush hour. Of course to a certain kind of person this is evidence of why Cycleways Bad
outside the gardens they didn't increase the number of disabled parks. I know there's disabled parking in the rose garden but that doesn't get access to the main gardens. Otherwise seems like a perfect spot for a cycleway, that spot used to be full of office worker cars during weekdays.
Yup, a few/several/many Wellingtonians would like to remove a few/several/many car parks. That would be a good use of NZTA funds as then they/we wouldn't need so many roads (and they cost heaps & heaps & heaps, so I understand ... 😁) ...

As a disabled person, I’m very used to this carry on.
My educated guess is she doesn’t give a shit about cyclists OR disability access.
Why?
Because the cyclists already got to their destination. I see them whizzing past while the cars all get backed up.
That is not how science works.
That cycle lane could have attacked at any time...
