Its not partisan rhetoric to say that $1 of spending cuts to poor people is a much bigger drag on growth than the possible offsetting support from $1 of tax cuts for rich people even though the budget remains flat. It's just macro mechanics.

Has it ever been proven that tax cuts have led to increased revenues for the government because of higher economic growth (via increases in personal income)? That claim has always seemed dubious to me.
Moreover, if these firings at federal agencies reach a critical mass, both increasing paralysis in sectors depending on government functioning smoothly and local economies hit by people being unemployed might get ugly fast for growth.
It's obvious to me that no one in Washington tries to reduce deficit while minimizing the hit to economics. All they want to do is to enrich the interest groups they represent, period.
