I remember the same sense of "What the fuck are these people remembering?" Glenn Beck stated he wanted a "9/12 Movement" when "We all came together..." and I remember volunteering, gas profiteering, threats against "Muslim-looking but actually Sikh" neighbors... and then enlisting in the Army.
I think "We all came together!" meant no organized opposition to a tax cut leading to deficits as far as they eye could see and letting them start 20 year wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
