Unfortunately, Rivian abuses its workers. Blocking exits while fumes from an active battery fire spread through the factory, and rampant sexual harassment kind of abused.
I like the styling but this Infotainment/Climate system is an instant pass for me. I absolutely hate the design trend away from physical controls and into a big tablet that has no physical feedback when the person is using it.
Problem with those skateboard battery electric cars is that instead of the floor being a thin piece of sheet metal, it’s a 10” thick battery. If you want any leg room whatsoever, it’s gotta be a stupid crossover.
...for an EV. They do their best with that black cladding (most EVs do this to some extent) but the smaller they are the harder it is to conceal the big chonk of batteries in the floor. Almost every EV looks just a little off on the proportions to my eye. A bit pregnant, if you will.
agreed... if anything they should have beefed up the cladding for more of an AMC Eagle look. A modern Eaglefied Gremlin, if you will. A little more rally swag.
A lot of the coolest old cars were absolutely pieces of shit. Of course all cars back then were super unreliable and slow and inefficient by modern standards, but even by the low standards of the time the smaller players like AMC put out horribly unreliable, badly-made cars. It's why they died.
yeah, it's part of the appeal... it's like one of those inexplicably cool redneck jobs, where they put something goofy like a Camaro on a truck chassis and somehow it looks amazingly compelling.
yeah, someone said the giant wheels are giving "first sketch at car design school" vibes and I kinda agree. Small wheels can look cool, in addition to reducing unsprung weight, improving ride, etc. I kinda hate how every car has to have huge wheels and low profile tires now.
I also like Rivian’s approach — filling the extra spaces with storage, tools, power supplies, etc etc. It’s very ‘Every Day Carry’ (derogatory) but interesting nonetheless.

It's very interesting to see how influential 70s Guigiaro is at the moment.
My wife has a Lexus UX. Same deal. I think it's a great design that looks very cool when lowered to car height.
Regardless, the Rivian looks fantastic.
The bigger question is the weight, which is notably absent from Rivian's press release (height and width are missing, too?)
