love this! for me i have to unlearn a lot of the 'it has to be realistic' or 'just like the photo reference' mindset bc i get caught up in it and my pieces suffer. trying to remind myself to not take it so seriously and stylize if i want to bc i think stylization is where the magic happens

M.C.Escher's work wasn't realistic. Also, any skill takes practice and it's difficult to put in the time if you're receiving criticism. I almost totally stopped drawing after I got repeated "help" from someone, and strangely enough my drawings still haven't improved.

Yes, this is controversial. Impressionism means art that expresses what the artist actually feels, not some random strokes on the canvas. Expressionalism means art that the artist actually feels, but also not some random strokes. When random strokes are considered art, art becomes redundant

You are the only redundancy. Art needs neither to be impressionist nor expressionist. Decorative art counts as art. Conceptual art counts as art. Minimalist art counts as art. All it has to be to objectively be art is what the artist calls it. Everything else is subjective.

The fact is, they are objectively art by definition. Art is an objective term we use to classify the perspective by which we discuss something. The worth of a work is subjective by a number of metrics, but objectively your child’s drawings are art. Otherwise one can say nothing is, and that’s inane.

And the people who define what art are called Artists. An artist is defined as one who makes art. This is not circular, as art is a paradigm, a conceptual view & perspective. When we call it art we are considering it in that perspective, taking it out of the “everyday” normal viewpoint.
