My friend who actually is from Poland humbled me really quick to break me from the cycle lmao
I guessed like 3 words (2 correctly). And I want to make clear I am German and the only thing I can read/speak besides English is Netherlands (bad in speaking)
Yet I ignore it and move on like der "Klügere gibt Nach" (wiser one gives in)
... Though yes the very American urge to associate with a country other than the one they were born in is strong in these ones
My guess is that where we were from was a big thing early on, and it just stuck with children holding onto it like a weird family crest.
Belgium. Belgany? Can we call it Belgany? I like that better.
Fuck it, I'm from Belgany.
I would love to have someone from Scotland or Wales teach me about their country / region and more.
But that's just my brain rotted young adult opinion
Anyway, yeah, literally the same every time someone say to me "I'm Italian"... why do American always say they're someone they are not?
Like, I have German origins, but I don't go around saying that I'm German 😭😭
they did say it in a weird way, but i'd still take this is a misundersanding
youre right tho, bro doesnt know anything about sweden
and neither do i
Is like Américans calling themselves latinos, when they speak spanish like Selena Gómez and know nothing about here
It's so weird, they should just say they're Americans
i don't go around flaunting that im 5% Egyptian to people who live there
My partners family is Italian and Cajun. It's really reflected in how they talk and what foods they grew up eating.
I don't go around flaunting about my Indian, Spanish, or British blood, I just say, "I was born in Perú, I'm Peruvian"
because why else would they be saying it if its not true?
because they think they need an excuse to like spanish things 😭
He got flustered and we kind of quietly ended the conversation after it turned out he had never been there.
yep this is relatable ( trying to learn Swedish also :3)
I find the focus on ethnicity, heritage and race off-putting. Introducing yourself by ethnicity and not nationality is... 🧍
Ethnicity has no say in who can or can't call themselves norwegian.
But I'm 100% American. (Even tho it's embarrassing to be that nowadays)
And the reason the US is like this is because of history.
