Love to live in America, where insurance covers a pittance for dental work and I get to pay 1200 bucks out of pocket to make sure a very much needed root canal gets done

Recently moved to Europe, and was a little caught out when the local dentist didn't ask for a full credit check before accepting my wife and I into their practice.
It's almost as if they aren't worried if I'll be able to afford their services, or something strange like that.
Right? And if you don't get the root canal, you can look forward to a heart condition - which is then covered by medical, but you have to pay your $6350.00 deductible.
To be fair dental is only starting to be covered here in Canada as part of our healthcare. Most of us still are on crappy private plans too (if we are lucky.) It’s being phased in and you can count on it being phased right out again if the conservatives get in.
You will absolutely love trading your health care to US insurance companies and their corporate executives. We will also sell you Teslas and cod liver oil.
Same, if I want to see more than a few inches in front of my face I need my glasses
Every time I do an eye exam they ask why I waited so long after my last one, and I want to scream "because it's not covered, I can't afford to do this every year"
It's total bullshit. I get my vision test every year done at Walmart for like $100, by a licensed optometrist. But then I still gotta buy glasses which is an easy $200 at least, god forbid you wanna get "nice" ones.
Dental and vision coverage have been separate for as long as I can remember. When I retired, I decided just to pay for it, the insurance is just more money down the drain cause the coverage isn't worth it. Don't forget to brush and floss as if your life depends on it.
Yup cheaper to go to a dentist in Progresso then pay insurance. Literally you'd be better off putting that money in a bank for when you need dental work.
One year I signed up for the dental plan that included orthodontics. Found out it doesn't cover employees, just their children, and I forgot to have children.
🙄🙄🙄
I quickly learned after I took the dental insurance offered by my employer at the time, that it was virtually worthless. What it covered was equivalent to the premiums I was paying. They were just holding onto my money for a year. No thank you!
I have never been able to afford to get *everything* done in the same year. Which leads to more problems over time, costing more money. I have been stuck in the "money-trap" of my own mouth for the last 12 years.
Assuming the cost was the same in Japan (it would probably be less) the copay under Japan’s national health insurance (which includes dental care) would be 30% (20% for low income older folks) and the insurance would pay the rest.
And then 5 years later that tooth dies or cracks and has to go. I lost 5 molars that way. Root canals are frequently NOT complete, infection sets in eventually. I had one bad root tip give me a sinus infection that took 5 years to diagnose. The tooth had to be removed, leaving a hole in my sinus.
Yeah, pretty much happened to my Mom at her dentist.
He’s a very good dentist, I must say. He’s also mine.
His wife ran the office. She’s the one who asked about Mom applying to CC. I didn’t think she’d get it, tbh. Then she did. Was helpful getting her work done.
You can, with Care Credit's predatory 32.99% interest rate. Because Care Credit is considered a financing plan and not a credit card, you also get the double whammy of it negatively affecting your credit, regardless of the fact that you pay on time.
very common move here in AZ, if you do careful research there are lots of reputable dentists just across the border. and the restaurants in those towns even have special "soft food" menus because dental tourism is so popular

So what I'm missing a couple of teeth. The ringing
in my ears has stopped!
I guess it's not important to eat or see, right? 😮💨

Transition lenses? Blue light filter? Anti glare? Anti scratch? NO JUST KEEP IT CHEAP PLEASE

The last abscess I had ten years destroyed my jaw and ruined my savings with hospital and emergency dental visits
Gotta do whatever I can to head this off
The mouth is wildly important and any damage that could lead to infection is extremely serious due to its proximity to the brain.
Swear to god every trip to the dentist is a singularly radicalizing experience

Wasn’t happy about that, but Mom was able to get the dental work she needed done.
Guess the dentist had too many people not be able to keep up payments.
I’m still trying to get the company to reverse it
