🧵 1/4 I think some of the comments here are missing the forest for the trees. Yes these late-night hosts are all at a basic level saying "Trump Bad", which he most definitely is, but there's often more to it than that.
🧵 3/4 In the era of this completely unhinged administration with a cowering & neutered MSM and soon to be corrupt DoJ, these hosts are all taking a substantial risk. I don't see how any of them stay out of the gulag, never mind retain their shows.
🧵 4/4 And I'd like to add a shout-out to Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. His writers do an amazing job condensing an enormous amount of research into a 30 minute weekly show, which is why they keep winning Emmy's. If you don't have HBO, much of the content is on the show's YouTube channel.
I respect u as a journalist, but what did these network funnymen ever do to really advance a cause, like Medicare For All for instance? Are they collaborators or true resisters, I would say the former. They are today's court jesters, paid by the rich to keep us entertained, with nothing on the line.
How long can you listen to "gee whiz, can you believe how stupid this is?" and then move onto the next joke/commercial/interview without really affecting any real change.
It was kinda creepy on Colbert tonite. During his monologue he said “hey Siri, open book” and my iPhone said “uh huh” and opened my audiobook from my Library Libby app that I hadn’t closed.
Me & the boyfriend are currently rewatching an episode of “Righteous Gemstones” each night. It’s been such a release for us to have a really good laugh.
I started following my kitties 🐈🐈⬛ examples, nothing seams like it bothers them. I lay around waiting for someone to feed and scratch me, and sleep 😴.
The first Trump presidency made me an addict on late-night comedy. Colbert, Kimmel, Meyers, etc., kinda helped me calm down enough to sleep, and it's gonna be that way this time. I wish we still had Trevor Noah at the Daily Show, but it's still a good show.
I don’t want to see or hear anything about him. Despite showing the stupidity of this criminal, millions of people still voted for him. We would have been better served if they give him no publicity.
I agree but I've stopped recording Colbert and I've been a fan since the Daily Show. Too many clips of shitler for me to stomach. Humour is important so wherever you find it.

The Late Night folks kept us all informed and snickering at the crazy during COVID.

And John Oliver is back next weekend (16th!) which we can record early and watch after the kids are in bed!

Thanks so much.
So grateful for all of your reporting & your voice ♥️
I don't want to hear more of the news, even if it is funny...
'cause a lot of this is NOT funny 😭
