Bob Dorough was simply the nicest man ever. My boss at Blue Note Records told him what my favorite Schoolhouse Rock song was. He called one day, and when I answered the phone, he began singing, “Lolly, lolly, lolly, get your adverbs here.” He played it for me live in Central Park too! ❤️❤️❤️

I got to see Bob Dorough play live on at least three different occasions: Twice when I was in grade-school ... and once as an adult.

The seating was better when I was a kid ... even though it was only a gymnasium floor.

A true Renaissance man. he was an American jazz trumpeter, singer & actor. He performed on “The Merv Griffin Show” & of course, participated in the educational series “Schoolhouse Rock”; I always remember seeing him on the Griffin show & loved when I found out that was him singing on “Schoolhouse”

He appeared on several episodes of the 60s "Dragnet", some of which I discussed on my podcast (link in bio).

You may know this (but for those who don't), Bob was the genius behind the whole thing. He was approached by an exec who mentioned that his kid was having trouble with multiplication tables and wondered if he could learn better if lessons were put to music.
