Well, that is a pretty low bar to clear because they haven't really clearly "lost" that many trades the last decade. There's also the matter of one year of a RP, even Devin Williams, just doesn't have *that* much value. But it's not looking great at the moment, for sure.

True and that's good. The truth is even if he puts together a good season (which I still expect if healthy) it's the one year rental thing that was ill conceived and weirdly counter to the way they usually operate - couple that with a tiny infielder and I pretty much hate it...

Yeah, I get that. The problem is we don't know what else was potentially out there for them to get. I kinda doubt that anyone was offering 6 years of club control of a guy we'd actually love for one year of a closer.

In terms of a major league ready player I agree. Just philosophically I’d rather them take a few shots on 2-3 lottery tickets than use it on a rental.

It would be interesting to know what they were targeting as they fielded calls from around the league for him in December. It may simply be that this was the best offer they got from an overall value standpoint and it just made the most sense, not that they were after help for right now specifically

Yes, this is why you don't trade the long term, much greater value of top prospects to make marginal upgrades in the short term. You also can't force top 100 guys like Miz or Henderson in before they're ready. You want to set them up to succeed, not to fail, so you proceed cautiously.

God, you're insufferable when you pretend like you've never been through a baseball season before.

The guys primarily responsible for that, Cortes aside, will be the ones pushed out of the staff to make room for all the guys coming back and or up for the first time in the coming weeks.

Yeah, you're right. They should have traded Corbin, Brandon and Freddy before they came up. Then we could have just skipped right past all those pesky wins from 2018-2023.
