I’m out on a walk. There’s a pedestrian crossing with no light or anything. But line of cars coming down the street. First two don’t stop for me, even though by law they’re supposed to.

Really no surprises about that there. Trumpland is car-brained.
Not all mind you (eg labor concerns are real), but they are more diligent “drivers” by a large margin.
I'll happily install a curb, bollards, and a speed table on my own dime if it means my neighbors' kids have a dramatically reduced risk of being mowed down.
Teslas? Very different story.
