It has been more than 20 years since the Pittsburgh Penguins have been facing a rebuild. They got bad, yes.
But the Rangers kept Kreider, Lundqvist and even Zibanejad I'd consider as part of that.
The Kings kept Kopitar, Doughty and Quick (they didn't trade him until after they got good again).
Boston retool’d with Pastrnak and McAvoy.
NYR and LA with a mix of UFAs, pre-existing cores and draft.
The Caps are basically retooling with trades, cap space and development.
Good on them for being in the McKenna/DuPont range.
