But beware of states that may purge voter rolls just days before an election and don't have same-day registration. Some states did this last year. You may need a passport to re-register if they do this.
Don't we have to show a birth certificate to vote? I'm 74 and have voted many times. Also married and divorced twice, 3000 miles away. There's NO WAY I can get the requi$red documentation in the current bill.
The current SAVE Act only deals with registration. If you are already registered, you’re supposed to be okay. But don’t move or you have to re-register.
My state does not require ID to vote. That may be next on Trump’s agenda. I see that NC now requires a driver’s license. Over 65, it can be expired if it was valid on your 65th birthday.
NC is a mixed bag. Good governors, horrid fossilized Republican Congress, gerrymandered to a fare-thee-well. So we really love the respite our governors may give.
Thank you again. 😘
If you don't have a *qualifying REAL ID (only about 5 states' REAL IDs will work under the SAVE Act), and you're a married woman who changed to her husband's name -- you WILL need a passport.
If you're a woman who's engaged or still single, just keep your own name.
I didn't look into showing a court order (i.e. name change is in progress). But even after your name change is completed, you have to change all your other stuff--SS card, DL, voter ID, etc. Since this act is meant to disenfranchise ppl, I can see states refusing my vote if my IDs don't all match.
This bill states that if your real id (or any id) doesn’t show your citizenship status, then you will need a doc that does. A passport will work but there are other options. Birth certificate most common. But inconsistent names may require add’l docs at state lvl.
It doesn’t explicitly say that but implies it in several sections. I don’t think politicians come out and say anything straight. But anyway, a passport is the safest option but not the only.
The ambiguity is the point. It'll make poll workers more likely to turn someone down, as the penalty for letting "the wrong person vote" is more severe than turning down the right person.
If already registered supposed to be safe until you move and must re-register. It does not require a passport IF you have a certified copy of your birth certificate and your names match exactly. If not, you must have officially certified proof of marriage. All must be brought in person.
The in-person registration places are likely to be overwhelmed and difficult to access. It is unclear whether the promise that previous registrations will be honored. He could decide tomorrow that EVERYONE must re- register.
No, under the current version of the SAVE Act, a marriage license or court order of name change is not adequate. States may (but are not required to) set up processes to accept a marriage license or court order, but a passport is the only guaranteed way to vote.
Read the Bill. If you move or change your affiliation, you have to reregister in person and YES you will need a passport if your current name does not match your birth certificate. Unless you live in one of only five states whose Real IDS show place of birth. Most do not and will not suffice.
The GOP are looking to upend 2026 midterms. Be ready. Get your paperwork in order. Yeah, it is unfair AF but this is the boat in which we find ourselves. Fight their fascist impulses.
We are not “in this boat yet“ unless Democrats agree to it. The first most important thing you should be doing is calling your Senators and saying to have nothing to do with this bill.
THIS is the best summary of the 4 versions of this bill I've found. Make sure you know your situation & understand it.
I haven't been able to get a clear explanation btwn REAL ID (for flights/travel) & enhanced drivers license (Mex & Can border crissings only). The latter is only avail in 5 states
I think everyone should anyway. I could see this administration allowing individual states and agencies to change their rules at the last minute just to suppress the vote. I just wish we can a way to donate to a fun to help financially needy people to get a passport.
Wrecking structure and lives is what stupid and sadistically insane individuals like Trump do! Chaos is created to cover over and distract us from looking at the stupidity, insanity and inferiority of the sadist...

Not sure what is true
That’s the problem with social media.

1) I'm married and
2) my name on my birth certificate doesn't match my driver's license
THEN
3) I would need either an enhanced driver's license or
4) a passport to register to vote or make changes to my voter registration.
IF this passes the senate.
Does that sound right?
It says IDs that are REAL ID-compliant driver’s license that “indicates the applicant is a citizen.”
But real IDs don't indicate citizenship. The gold star does not mean you're an American.
Whereas, EDLs have an American flag on them, which confirms citizenship
