I think there's a difference right? Between "This sword does glow with an internal light, sometimes" as an artistic choice and "A beam of plasma extending out of a hilt".

solidified light is a super interesting power/tool i also find myself enjoying. perhaps "luminous" or "crystallized," or even just "solid" could describe it?

Hard light is usually a sci-fi term but I don't think it's out of place in fantasy compared to something like lightsaber. The sunsword from i6 was "crystal glassteel" that constantly glowed when united with the hilt. Not quite the same but still evocative.

I remember a sword in Drakengard that actually broke apart as you leveled it up.

Pieces of the blade would fall off. The remaining chunks of the blade were held in place by a shift of energy.

Like old concrete breaking off a piece of rebar.

It's so striking, I particularly like when Bilbo is fighting the spiders and all they see is sting's glowing blade, like a streak of light that's just striking them down.
