For my design class in college, we had to make packaging for a product that didn't exist. So I thought, "What if Sony and Nintendo actually made the CD add on for the SNES?"
And then it spiraled out of control.

The longer I stare at it, the more impressive it gets. This is really, really good.
I don't have the original unedited image anymore but I did find the painted over one
This is wonderful btw hello???
We almost had this, we almost had this, lord
Here's quick examples of my handiwork!
Here's some more examples, 'cause why not? I hadn't got as far as figuring out the Japanese and European design languages beyond their RAM Save Pak equivelents, but yeah this was a lot of fun! Kinda getting a hankering to go back to doing these, even... x)
Then again i have a RAM expansion pak in my timeline that's required in some games so I guess we both got our shortcomings :)
And designs for the discs
And a design for the Japanese case.
I am also imagining Nintendo and Sony would create a 64 bit CD based machine in 95, but the SNES would still be supported
It's based around the rumor that Ken Kutaragi almost managed to persuade a CD idea to Nintendo as early as 1987,
And another rumor that claims that Sony's own CD-i division brought Philips on board to sabotage Kutaragi's deal (1/?)
Leading CD-i team to instead retaliate by teaming up with Nintendo's biggest rival Sega
That's right, Sony playing both sides of the console war (2/?)
Otoh we got Mega Drive from Sega and Sony *Interactive* (because CD-*i* stands for Interactive) Entertainment, combining the best of CD-i specs and Sega Super Scaler arcade hardware (3/?)
Zelda Wand of Gamelon, Link The Faces of Evil and Hotel Mario would not exist and would fundamentally change early meme culture and YouTube Poops forever....
Would you live in a world without Morshu, Dinner and Gay Luigi?
