On NDC2: stopping dangerous climate change (like that which has pushed up home insurance 47% since the 2023 floods) means phasing out fossil fuels. New Zealand has already reduced fossil CO2 from 9.1 tonnes/person in 2005 to 5.8t now, so it's not as if we've done nothing.
Comments
Scenario 1: We reach the world average under a 1.5 ºC pathway: 2 tonnes/person. Tough but maybe doable.
Scenario 2: We follow the Climate Change Commission's 'HTHS' pathway: 3 tonnes/person – slightly slower than current progress
Scenario 4: We meet the Government's new Paris target, which does not require any reduction in fossil fuels at all: 6 tonnes/person?
