Living in a tropical climate makes you really appreciate winter. It’s like “wow, I’ve been outside and haven’t been devoured by mosquitoes or drenched in sweat, neat!”
I was born on the wrong country - I crave the cold and burn instantly in the sun, the cruelest joke England ever played was sending that many Irish people to Australia, you bastards!
It’s not the worst, our winters do exist, and snow can happen once or twice. But, it’s summer now and I hate it.
I was born in Alaska, and partially grew up there. Kinda wild walking home from school at 3:30 in the afternoon, and it's 100% dark already, walking along the road with the falling snow being illuminated by the streetlights.
Flip side: In the summer, the sun went down at 11pm.
It not like I said it was a hot take
Not every opinion has to be original
Original opinions are something everyone should have but that doesn’t mean that it’s not ok to have on original opinions sometimes
Sorry I’m yaping I you get what I’m saying
My Helsinki friend said it is now dark. First time I visited was between Christmas and New Year's Eve, and it was always “somber” if not night. Never got full daylight, but always an eerie, intriguing light. I love Helsinki, and my friends there. Probably the world’s most advanced nation.
Exactly. Lived through Maine winters, and let's just say there's a reason why the world's most well known horror writer is from there and sets 90% of his stuff there.
People in comments need to understand that not everyone hates winters, its just their personal opinion i guess i personally LOVE winter, it calms me ridiculously fastly
yep yep yep, i hate it. Imagine going to a place you hate, doing stuff you hate for 8 hours, and then taking a long ass commute you hate back home, in darkness and freezing. May i please have a crumb of light to make brain happy chemical?
It happens every year. No amount of bitching, bawling, moaning and groaning is going to change anything. The days will continue to shorten until December 21st. Then the sun starts to win again for six months. Then the cycle begins again. Every single year. 🤷
Most people like spring and fall because you do get that best of both words feeling. Spring skiing is awesome because it's 5 p.m., the sun is still high in the sky, you're fine in a t-shirt and hey, you're skiing.
I was doing a secret shop yesterday and one of the questions asked if it was dark outside when I did my shop. I had reported my time as 415-445. It was indeed dark. I got an error message "You cannot report it was dark before 5pm."
My middle/high school bus picked us up at 6:10 because we had to transfer onto a 2nd bus that parked in front of the elementary school’s library. Since I attended a vocational school, I rode a 3rd bus. I’d wake up at 4:45 to shower and do morning chores, and get home at 3:50 after 3 more bus rides.
This is why the daylight saving time switch thingy is dumb. No one cares if in the morning it is dark while heading to school BUT certainly you want some daylight when you are heading back home...like u wanna maybe go out etc
As someone that lived in the land of the midnight sun, this was my whole school life growing up heh. Summers had a different problem though, with a sun that would never set heh.
Must be different by départment. In the Charente Maritime they still had Wednesday off (and had abolished Saturday morning school) when we last lived there (returned to UK in 2015).
I used to drive a jeep that had a bad alternator. During the winter, while freezing because it was an open top with no heater, I always had the headlights on. That meant I had to park near an outlet so I could plug in a battery charger. Summer was so much better.
Uh huh
I go to work for the early shift and come home, around 9 AM. The sun from now until late January is just up. The second shift ends about 4:30 PM and the sun has just set. For real.
I think the earliest sunset is a few days away? Then it stays the same for a week & a half, on the day of the solstice it is actually two minutes later again, but sunrise is still getting later?
Had that many times at work, particularly bad when I was in a windowless office.
Come in, it’s dark. Go home, it’s dark and now there’s a foot of snow on the ground that wasn’t there this morning.
The US should follow the example of China; only one timezone for the entire country. If we adopt this plan and use EST, you could have the above picture year round. 4pm Sunrise in Hawaii, you're welcome.
i wish it got dark as early as every winter-hater meme says. i hate the sun. it rises at 6 and sets at 1730 and i want to beat it to death but i can't because it's too far away. because it's a coward.
Bane : "Oh, you think darkness is your ally. But you merely adopted the dark; I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but BLINDING!"
Up here in the north hemisphere it’s hard to tell if it’s morning or night. The only difference you can actually tell is that mornings are ever so slightly brighter than the evenings!
I've always wondered how people in the "Night months" get around. Are there drills at school? Do you wear reflective clothing so you don't get sidewalk pizza'd? Are there PSAs? I assume there are a fuckton of street lights.
In elementary school there might’ve been PSAs and reflective stuff n all that. But at least where I live, it being pitch black is a mild exaggeration + the lights of all the cars passing by are enough for us to get home

Was gonna be dark when we headed to the bus stop at 630 either way, then stuck under fluorescents the rest of the day
So at least give us a little sun when we're free for the day and can enjoy it
Glad to see it's 4 PM
sunlight activates vitimin D
lack of vitimin D makes you depressed
thats why the week of most self deaths is in januairy, as people get a severe lack of sunlight due to school or their job
so keep your loved ones happy
And it's still getting worse 😂
Because yes, it's nice if it's lighter for longer, but if sweat pours out from my armpits even when I'm sitting still I'm not happy.
Vote for the person who says they will end daylight savings time.
Welcome to winter!
Living in a tropical region, just happy temps and humidity is livable for a couple months.
7.00AM time to go to school
6.00PM time to go home
Wednesday No school
There wasn't school the Wednesday before 2012

I feel like I was banned from the sunlit lands! :)

Always be wary of the car that is sliding quickly towards your location
being at school for 20 hours crazy
You were lucky. I had to be out the door and waiting on the damned bus at 6:45.
Eeesh. I shudder just thinking of it.
Nope, that was a cat running past my legs.
9.00am On my way to class (dark outside)
12.30pm Lunchtime! (twilight outside)
3.00pm Time to go home (dark outside)
