I know it's weird, but on Facebook there are actually some really good gardening groups led, and followed by engaging, knowledgeable, and friendly gardeners, who will kindly answer any questions. I've learned so much from them. I basically just ignore everything else from that site.

I’d recommend the Tilth Alliance. They are in Washington but they publish a really good Pacific Northwest based organic gardening book.

It’s been incredibly helpful to me (novice), and I know it’s the real deal because when I got it at a northern NH bookshop (1995 edition for $10), the proprietor approvingly murmured, “You got yourself a good one.”

Find a place a la Portland Nursery and talk to them. There’s always free literature and often free little classes to take and nursery people will gladly share what they know. The Western Garden book by Sunset might be good? Been a while since I cracked it open.

If there is a decent community college near you I’d look into whatever community learning courses they offer. Mostly suggest that because gardening/landscaping will have specifically local components that may not be covered in a lot of books. Would be easiest way to learn and be successful quickly.

Yes. The Bible for perennial ornamental gardening is The Know Maintenance Perennial Garden by Diblik. Fantastic and easy to follow book with planting guides and designs.

If you’ll accept an alternative suggestion, your local garden store will typically have extremely knowledgeable people. That’s how I’ve gone from totally useless to at least marginally capable of decent lawn and garden care

I think you are someone who likes books. But going down a YouTube rabbit hole could put you up on game pretty fast. Use books to supplement maybe? Good luck. I started my first garden 13 years ago and have never looked back. If you want to grow food, Square Foot Gardening is a great book.
