I wouldn't call it enmity, just differing priorities. The Liberals are a big-tent, centre-left party, while the NDP are a left wing democratic socialist/labour union party.
The NDP was actually keeping the minority Liberals afloat these past years, and have only recently withdrawn their support.
Depends on what party they support. LPC members are likely ecstatic. CPC and NDP voters will be looking to see what his policies are and which ones to complain about. BQ voters will ask what's in it for them. Green party voters, I don't know really.

I confess, I seethe every time I hear Coyne and Althia speak. They want Carney to "emote" and be a rock star leader. Why are the standards so high for the Liberal leader? Why don't they expect the same from Poilievre? He is the WORST CPC leader ever.
Technically we don’t do terms. Government is formed by the party that gets the most votes federally during an election. The leader of that party becomes the Prime Minister. The party leader is chosen by registered party supporters.

Currently the Liberals hold power as a minority government. They don’t have the ability to govern without the support of another party (the NDP in this case). Our scheduled election federally is for the Fall, but an early one can be called either by choice of the Libs or by the NDP removing support.
That still sound infinitely less infuriating than US politics. It's a bunch of holdover crap from pre-slavery times and we're all too dumb to get rid of it.
