Everyone opining about whether boycotts are ever useful hopefully is checking what they say against “Is this a correct statement about the Montgomery Bus Boycott?”

I compared it today to dress up days at school. If you start school spirit days with the craziest dress up days no one participates. You got to give him a Western Day so that they can feel confident that if no one else dressed up they still don't look stupid in a plaid shirt. Then you can get buy in
If you call for a general strike without any build up to it you're not going to get as much participation because people are going to be too scared to call out of work with for fear that there won't be solidarity and they will just get fired.

if everyone buys nothing today yet twice as much as typical tomorrow, it's all the same
Bus Boycott was an ENTIRE YEAR and ended with SupremeCourt decision
that definitely mattered, this does not do anything
bad assumption on my part as I've been reading such posts in that regard past few days
Montgomery was a severe sacrifice
and the horrific repercussion after was for cities to double-down on segregation in everything else
No end to this country's sins
yes dude
But if we don’t take that first step then nothing will ever change.
(Hmm, maybe dark matter is boycotting us!)
And people who are so against it because it's only one day-- it's only one day. Give it a shot. Yes and.
All movements start small and build.
You just have to give people the feeling that they can do it
