I found that carrying and using a simple nail file was enough to stop me from biting my nails, FWIW

I noticed that most of my biting was to even out a raw edge here or a chip there, and it would be like, well now THAT side is uneven gnaw gnaw gnaw oh crap now the OTHER side is uneven gnaw chew gnaw ah fuck I no longer have a fingernail... and filing did a great job of short-circuiting that process
