Yes, but a code-base should decide for either one. It doesn't mix and match too well imo.

Oh absolutely! That goes for many potential flame war topics. At best, the team can decide to review past decisions periodically (i.e. triggered by changes to standards or best practices) and refactor accordingly

Truth: which exposes the hidden flaw in most of the "what's faster" type discussions: what kind of "faster" are we talking about? Coding speed? Execution speed? Compile speed? Something else? A combination? The answers are generally different for each.
