Just another actual bit of early US federal history: employees who handled funds were ‘bonded,’ which meant they were personally on the hook for misappropriated or misused funds. That might be worth bringing back

Do they have to post bonds or can just be held liable? I’m not sure when they altered the bonding rules but I guess it wouldn’t work for most people being held responsible for multimillion or billion dollar budgets

I feel like I should add that Lewis did not misuse any funds. The guy that accused him was terrible at business and had a serious axe to grind as a result, which reminds me of a certain someone…
