There was a lady who testified at the ebike registration hearing and worked at an assisted living community on the UES - and became angry and emotional over e-bikes - and she said something to the effect of "they're so fatal" but corrected herself midway to "near fatal"
And I'm just so in awe - because if you actually cared about this issue - then it's obvious what should be the focus. I was thinking ok ok - if it's such a hazard all these near misses - then you can get the cops to do the occasional targeted enforcement. But here's the thing:
Every cop stationed at that sidewalk to ticket/discourage sidewalk riding, would be more effective at minimizing traffic violence borne by the elderly, by simply standing at nearby intersections giving failure to yield tickets instead. Do we want to save lives or not?
